How to Find the Cheapest Gas in Your City!

Cutting Costs 1 Comment

I want to share a neat website that I found today with you. This website is all about finding cheap gas in your city. How do you know that where you are getting gas is the least expensive? If you have been around town, then you might know some of the prices, but unless you live in a really small town, it is unlikely that you have been to all of the gas station to compare prices. This site will save you a lot of time and worry.

Rather than having to wait to see if gas is cheaper in one area of town, you can search different areas of town and compare effortlessly.

The website gives you a chart of the cheap gas. You can also search for expensive gas if you are just dying to waste your money.

Hope this helps you save some money!

Are Apples Equivalent to Caffeine?

Energy No Comments

By: Lindsay Miller

I came into work today needing a “pick-me-up”. I’ll admit it, I was feeling a little tired. Decaf Chamomile Mint tea with honey just didn’t cut it this morning, except to soothe my throat. I’m not a morning person either, so even if I wake up feeling great and well rested, it’s guaranteed that I’ll hit snooze at least once. On mornings where I feel exhausted still I have been known to hit the snooze button for over an hour. Yikes. I feel bad for my college roommates!

However, I have a sweet job with sweet perks… literally! I can come into work and have a delicious, crisp, organic apple. And a Pink Lady Apple at that. (I’m such a sucker for packaging and Pink Lady Apples are packaged well with their beautiful blush pink streaks with yellow.) And I’ll be honest, I’m not really an apple person. I consider myself more of a citrus and banana kind of gal.

You know what they say, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away…” Maybe the old saying should go “An apple a day is better than a cup of coffee today!” It’s true! Although apples do not have caffeine, they do have the glucose that fuels your brain and gives you energy. Legitimate natural energy! Talk about a pick-me-up!

Glucose:Brain::Gasoline:Car

(Glucose is to brain what gasoline is to car.)

This analogy brings back painful memories of the SATs! I wish I ate more apples then! Had I known of the goodness of apples sooner I would’ve saved tens of, gulp, maybe hundreds of dollars from buying so much darn coffee!

If you want to cut back on caffeine, if you’re feeling too jittery, or if you just don’t like the taste of coffee bring on the fruit (and keep off the pounds!). Don’t like apples? Throw a banana into your cereal, oatmeal, or just grab it and go!

“Relaxing with a Mental PDA” Stress management

Uncategorized No Comments

We all have this favorite expression when it comes to being stressed out, and I wouldn’t bother naming all of them since it may also vary in different languages. But when it comes down to it, I think that it is how we work or even relax, for that matter that triggers stress. Ever been stressed even when you’re well relaxed and bored? I know I have.

It is important to find ways to decrease and prevent stressful incidents so that you won’t feel as stressed. Here are some of the things that can be done by just remembering it, since life is basically a routine to follow like brushing your teeth or eating breakfast. You can do a few of them in a longer span of time, but as they say– every minute counts.

Managing time

Time management skills can allow you more time with your family and friends and possibly increase your performance and productivity. This will help reduce your stress.

To improve your time management:

· Save time by focusing and concentrating, delegating, and scheduling time for yourself.
· Keep a record of how you spend your time, including work, family, and leisure time.
· Prioritize your time by rating tasks by importance and urgency. Redirect your time to those activities that are important and meaningful to you.
· Manage your commitments by not over- or undercommitting. Don’t commit to what is not important to you.
· Deal with procrastination by using a day planner, breaking large projects into smaller ones, and setting short-term deadlines.
· Examine your beliefs to reduce conflict between what you believe and what your life is like.
Build healthy coping strategies

It is important that you identify your coping strategies. One way to do this is by recording the stressful event, your reaction, and how you cope in a stress journal. With this information, you can work to change unhealthy coping strategies into healthy ones-those that help you focus on the positive and what you can change or control in your life.

Lifestyle

Some behaviors and lifestyle choices affect your stress level. They may not cause stress directly, but they can interfere with the ways your body seeks relief from stress. Try to:

· Balance personal, work, and family needs and obligations.
· Have a sense of purpose in life.
· Get enough sleep, since your body recovers from the stresses of the day while you are sleeping.
· Eat a balanced diet for a nutritional defense against stress.
· Get moderate exercise throughout the week.
· If you’re going to drink (for those of you who are older than 2!), drink moderately.
· Don’t smoke.

Changing thinking

When an event triggers negative thoughts, you may experience fear, insecurity, anxiety, depression, rage, guilt, and a sense of worthlessness or powerlessness. These emotions trigger the body’s stress, just as an actual threat does. Dealing with your negative thoughts and how you see things can help reduce stress.

· Thought-stopping helps you stop a negative thought to help eliminate stress.
· Disproving irrational thoughts helps you to avoid exaggerating the negative thought, anticipating the worst, and interpreting an event incorrectly.
· Problem solving helps you identify all aspects of a stressful event and find ways to deal with it.
· Changing your communication style helps you communicate in a way that makes your views known without making others feel put down, hostile, or intimidated. This reduces the stress that comes from poor communication. Use the assertiveness ladder to improve your communication style.

Even writers like me can get stressed even though we’re just using our hands to do the talking, but having to sit for 7 or 8 hours is already stressful enough and have our own way to relieve stress. Whether you’re the mail guy, the CEO, or probably the average working parent, stress is one unwanted visitor you would love to boot out of your homes, especially your life.

Brown Bag Means More Green

Cutting Costs No Comments

I have spent the last five days observing my fellow college students. There is one thing that many of them have in common: fast food. There are quite a few convenient places to get good, healthy (and not so healthy!) food places on campus. When you’re running late to class, you can grab a deli sandwich combo for $5.50. That may not sound too outrageous when you’re starving because you woke up late and didn’t have a good breakfast, but it really adds up if you aren’t careful to stay within your budget.

You will save so much money if you buy simply pack a lunch, and probably a few snacks to keep you sustained until healthy (and cheap!) food is available.

Also, check our the places on campus that have free food! On the University of Louisville campus, they have a church service where they have a home-cooked meal once a week. The Baptist Campus Minisrty has free lunch on Friday. If you don’t want to spend time hunting down the food, ask an upperclassman who has been on campus for a while. Believe me, free food is everywhere!

So, the night before you have a class, when you are tired and don’t feel like taking the time to pack a lunch, remember that every time you bring a bronwn bag, that means more green in your wallet. Remember, those student loans have to be payed off some time…

What Is A Credit Card?

Credit Card Debt 2 Comments

I have been reading more about young adults and credit cards lately, and I was shocked to find that many teens do not know what a cred card really is! Technically,  a credit card is just a small piece of plastic that easily fits in your wallet. Well, it’s not ‘just a piece of plastic’; it’s a very powerful piece of plastic which can be regarded as a compressed form of cash. We can define credit cards as a credit system that allows the consumer to borrow money on the fly from a bank or a financial institution and use it to make payments to the merchants.

In order to obtain a credit card, the consumer needs to fill-in an application form that is actually like an agreement between the credit card supplier and the credit card consumer. The credit card supplier approves the application form and provides the consumer with a small piece of plastic (i.e. the credit card). This plastic (or credit card) contains electronically encoded security information in the form of a magnetic strip (which is generally located at the back of the credit card). This information is used for authorizing payments whenever the consumer uses the credit card. Read the rest…

Credit Card Debt Settlement

Credit Card Debt, Money Management No Comments

I know that I have written quite a lot about credit card debt, but I know how many students are struggling with it right now. I want to provide all of the best information I can to help them get out of the nightmare of credit card debt.

‘Credit card debt’ is the worst of all nightmares. A successful credit card debt settlement is like getting a new lease of life. Credit card debt settlement is a wonderful stress relieving mechanisms. Once you are done with your credit card debt settlement, you are assured of a much better life. All those nagging phone calls and mails will become history and all that surmounting tension would be gone. That’s why credit card debt settlement is so essential.

You can approach credit card debt settlement in 2 ways. You can either go for credit card debt settlement all by yourself or you can take advice from a credit counselling company or a professional. Any of these credit card debt settlement methods are fine, as long as they work for you and help you get debt-free quickly. If you go for credit card debt settlement all by yourself, you will need to analyse the various options available to you e.g. checking on various balance transfer offers available in the market, checking the short term loan options with the banks etc etc. However, if you want to take credit card debt settlement advice from a professional, you should be able to trust the advisor fully. So you need to check the credentials of the credit card debt settlement advisor/company. There are hordes of people and companies that advertise “credit card debt settlement in one day” or something of that kind which will look just fantastic. Such credit card debt settlement offers/advice are generally not genuine. Moreover, you need to understand that credit card debt settlement cannot happen overnight (unless you win a lottery or something like that). So, beware of such agencies. That said it’s important to mention that there are a lot of good credit card debt settlement advisors/companies available too who will not only give you genuine credit card debt settlement advice but will help you throughout until you are finally out of debt. Their advice may, in fact, more than compensate for the fee that they charge you for credit card debt settlement. These credit card debt settlement companies/advisors will be able to help you in the best way if you tell them your current financial situation correctly. Your future plans are important too, as they might influence the decision on ‘What route for credit card debt settlement would work the best for you’.

Moreover, once you are done with your credit card debt settlement, you should also take measures to avoid falling into that pit again.

Fake FAFSA

Applying for College, Federal Aid No Comments

I have been reading a lot about scholarships lately and am reminded of when I first applied to college. Mom spent hours filling out what she thought was the FAFSA form, only to find out it was the wrong website.

To save you and your family time, let me help you by telling you what I learned…there is only one FAFSA site. Do not give your information to any site that is not http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. Any other site is fake, so do not give them your information.
